SUCCESS LEAVES CLUES

We asked Damola for Clues

Something that catalyzed your growth - besides working hard?

Immigration forced me to rebuild my identity.
When you move to a new country, the things that once defined you - your reputation, your network, and your accomplishments disappear overnight. You have to decide who you are without those external markers.

That experience pushed me to develop an internal sense of confidence and self-trust that no environment can take away.

Something you're most proud of?

One of the things I’m most proud of is finding the courage to speak publicly and share my voice.

For most of my life, I succeeded quietly. I worked hard, delivered results, and stayed behind the scenes. Visibility never felt natural to me.
But over time, I realized that staying invisible wasn’t humility - it was hesitation.

Choosing to speak openly about my journey, my beliefs, and what I’ve learned has required me to step outside my comfort zone in ways that still stretch me today.

The proudest part isn’t the platform. It’s the decision to stop hiding.

On Reinvention

One of the defining reinvention moments in my life happened when I moved to Canada in 2014.
Before immigrating, I had already built a solid career in banking and leadership. I had credibility, experience, and a professional identity I was proud of.

When I arrived in Canada, none of that carried over. I started again as a bank teller. It was humbling in a way that forces you to confront who you really are. When the titles, the recognition, and the familiarity disappear, you have to decide whether your confidence was built on circumstances or something deeper.

I had to rebuild my career step by step in a completely new environment, eventually rising again into leadership. But the real reinvention wasn’t the career progression.

It was the moment I realized that starting over does not diminish your value. It reveals your resilience. And once you learn that lesson, you carry it with you everywhere you go.

To me, reinvention isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about refusing to let your past define your future.

A reinventor is someone who is willing to question the roles they’ve been given, let go of identities that no longer fit, and step into a fuller version of themselves - even when it’s uncomfortable.

Note to everyone considering a pivot:
"If you feel the pull to change direction, listen to it. Reinvention rarely begins with certainty. It begins with a quiet awareness that the version of you that once worked is no longer enough.
You don’t have to see the whole path. You only need the courage to take the next honest step."

Worth Remembering

Reinvention begins the moment you stop waiting for permission to become who you already know you are.
