After a successful corporate career in finance and strategy in the US, Junnifa transitioned into the field of education. Over the past decade, she has become a global voice for Montessori education, founded Fruitful Orchard Montessori in Abuja, Nigeria, and authored two bestselling books. In addition, she serves on the AMI Board, making history as the first African to hold this position.

Something that catalyzed your growth - besides working hard?
My children and the entire Fruitful Orchard community, including the families and staff, are truly some of my greatest catalysts. Watching them grow and transform through this work continually inspires me to keep going. Seeing the impact on families around the world and receiving their heartfelt feedback is an added motivation that fuels my passion even more.
Something you're most proud of?
When I was nominated to the Board of the Association Montessori Internationale, I had previously served on a board, but at a much smaller scale and in a very different type of organization.
Joining this board was both an honor and a daunting experience, as I found myself working alongside highly experienced leaders from different countries and continents.
As the first person of African descent to serve on the board, I carried a profound sense of responsibility. Despite the weight of that responsibility, I accepted the nomination, and I am proud of the contributions I have made over my eight years of service.
Looking back and hearing the affirming feedback from fellow board members and leaders within the Montessori community, I am grateful that I embraced the challenge.
On Reinvention
I began my career in the automotive industry through a leadership training program that exposed me to various aspects of the organization and took me to company locations around the world.
While still working in that role, I encountered a Montessori school that deeply moved me. Shortly after, a personal experience led me to make the decision to relocate to Nigeria.
As I was preparing to start my own family, I felt compelled to transition into a career that would not only impact my family but also contribute meaningfully to Nigeria.
A reinventor to me is someone who recognizes new possibilities within themselves and in the world around them and then boldly takes action to turn those possibilities into reality.
Note to everyone considering a pivot:
"I have never regretted the steps I chose to take. The only moments of reflection come from the steps I didn’t take. So take the leap. Start where you are. Seek God’s guidance, lean on the help of the Holy Spirit, and move forward with courage."
Worth Remembering
Life is long. I know we often say it’s short, but when you truly reflect on it, you realize it holds many seasons. Embrace each one fully, and never be afraid to begin again.
