SUCCESS LEAVES CLUES

We asked Adenike for Clues

Something that catalyzed your growth - besides working hard?

Apart from hard work, one of my biggest catalysts for growth has been believing there is more, a possibility mentality. Even in setbacks, I hold onto the belief that there is more good ahead, and that mindset helps me see and seize opportunities instead of shrinking back.

I stay curious. I’ve been inquisitive since childhood and have intentionally stayed that way. I love discovering new things, so I invest in learning especially cyber and soft skills training. Career-wise, I’m constantly willing to try new things, which is why I’ve been able to gain experience across multiple sectors.

I believe in the power of conversations. Often, they help you discover what is or isn’t useful for your journey. Conversations are catalysts, they can open doors that change your life.

I also embrace opportunities. My instinct is to take them on because I’m excited to see where they lead, while applying wisdom in deciding which opportunities and advice to lean into.

Something you're most proud of?

I recently won the Most Inspiring Women in Cyber 2026 Award. It’s a recognition of how far I’ve come in my career and truly represents a full-circle moment from when I first started. I was unsure of how things would pan out when I made my pivot, but have since grown in expertise and confidence in what I know and do.

I’ve also had opportunities to create solutions, be part of impactful networks, and introduce others to the industry through training, mentorship, and career guidance. In those moments of impact, I feel a deep sense of pride and accomplishment.

On Reinvention

My cybersecurity internship in 2012 had confirmed that cybersecurity was the field I wanted to establish a career in. After my Masters, I returned to Nigeria for NYSC, then joined KPMG’s Tech Advisory team. Though my time there was brief, it was intense and formative. I worked on six client engagements across various sectors and was constantly learning how security, technology, and risk intersect across industries.

I later moved to Abuja to join NERC (Nigeria’s Electricity Regulator) focusing on regulatory compliance. While the role offered stability and growth, I realized my long-term goal was broader. I wanted deeper, cross-functional experience across cybersecurity domains - experience that would position me for global impact and relevance.

That realization pushed me to pivot. I applied for roles aligned with that goal and was eventually recruited from Nigeria by my current company.

Relocating meant stepping into uncertainty, but it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The move expanded my perspective, challenged me to think bigger, and has brought me closer to the global impact I’ve always desired, as I’ve worked with teams in South Africa, the Americas, Europe and Asia.

A reinventor to me is someone who embraces change, constantly assesses where they are, and takes the necessary steps to stay aligned with their purpose - or discern when that purpose has taken a new direction. It’s a person who allows their multidimensional self to shine and break free from the mold.

Note to everyone considering a pivot:
“Do it informed. Count the cost, set SMART goals, and trust God’s leading. Have faith and execute boldly. It may feel overwhelming — breathe, and remember the way forward is through. Surround yourself with people who speak life into your journey, and be intentional about doing the same. Continuously assess progress and adjust strategy if need be. Stay true to the course, the reward will come.”

Worth Remembering

Embracing change is the surest way to discover the “more” you’re truly capable of.
